The appearance of our community has a direct connection to our crime level. A community with clean and well maintained properties presents the image of a community of concerned and caring members. The incidence of crime tends to be lower in such communities than were blighted properties are allowed to exist.

The Two Rivers Police Department, with assistance from the Inspections Department, is the primary enforcement department for the City in matters pertaining to blighted properties and the presence of junk vehicles.

Citizens are encouraged to report their personal observations of problem properties. Citizens may make such reports in-person at the Police Department, report by telephone by calling the Joint Dispatch Center at 920-686-7200, or by completing this electronic form.

Please contact Lt. Scott Gerard if you have any related questions.
scoger@two-rivers.org or 920-793-1191.
Citizen's Academy ( Police Department)
The academy has three main goals: to afford participants the opportunity to experience the “inner-workings” of city departments to better understand city management, operations and procedures; participants have the chance to meet city employees thereby strengthening community interaction and involvement. The academy provides city departments the opportunity to learn from participants as well.

Academy participants will have the chance to interact with employees in City Government, Parks and Recreation, Water and Light, and the Police and Fire Departments. Sessions generally run from 6:00–9:00 PM, every Tuesday night for a period of ten weeks concluding with an awards banquet on the final week.

Participants will learn about customer service responsibilities, parks and recreation activities, cemetery functions, senior center background, fire suppression, emergency medical services, building security searches, crime scene investigations, firearms handling, City Council proceedings, finance and the city budget process.

There is no cost to participate. Applicants are screened by the academy coordinators to ensure attendance by a cross-section of the community. Previous academy participants have been between 18 and 70 years of age, and have been from all walks of life – retirees, laborers, business owners and administrative professionals.

If you are interested in participating in this unique learning opportunity, Please contact Assistant Chief Mark Juul at the Two Rivers Fire Department, 793-5521, or Lt. Shawn Engleman at the Two Rivers Police Department, 793-1191. See the attached document for current Academy dates, times, and application form.
Crime Prevention Unit ( Police Department)
"The police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence" -Sir Robert Peel, 1829-

Sir Robert Peel's philosophy of policing in 1829 is the foundation of today's community oriented policing models seen nation wide.

The Two Rivers Police Department is committed to cooperative crime prevention efforts with our citizens in the form of education and encouraging citizen involvement.

Simple measures taken by you, the homeowner, renter or business owner can help to prevent you from becoming a victim.

Lock your doors and report suspicious activity when you see it. These are the two most important aspects of a successful community crime prevention program.

To acquire more crime prevention information please contact the Two Rivers Crime Prevention Unit at 920-793-7209 or e-mail us at crimeprevention@two-rivers.org.
